Networking doesn’t have to mean a stuffy conference room and lukewarm coffee. That’s why our Financial Planning Associate, Sam, has launched Chester Tennis Networking – a fresh way for local professionals to meet, connect, and build relationships on the court.

The idea

It’s simple, really. Get a group of local professionals together at Glan Aber Tennis Club, play some tennis, and let the conversations happen naturally.

No formal agendas. No awkward name badges. No death-by-PowerPoint. Just good company, a bit of healthy competition, and the kind of genuine connection that’s hard to manufacture in a meeting room.

The sessions are free to attend and run monthly, scheduled around court availability and attendees’ diaries.

Who’s it for?

Chester Tennis Networking is aimed at professionals who regularly work with clients on big life decisions – accountants, solicitors, bankers, surveyors, and business owners.

Why these people? Because they’re the professionals, we naturally cross paths with when helping our clients. And when you’re referring a client to someone, you want to know they’re in safe hands. That confidence doesn’t come from a LinkedIn connection or a quick handshake at an event, it comes from genuinely knowing someone.

That’s the idea here. Build real relationships, so when the time comes to make a referral, it’s easy.

All abilities welcome. The focus is on connection, not competition (although a bit of competitive spirit never hurt anyone).

Why we’re behind it

At Celtic Financial Planning, we’ve always believed that the best business relationships are built on trust and genuine connection. That rarely happens in a first meeting across a desk, it happens over time, through shared experiences and real conversations.

This feels like a brilliant way to make that happen. We’re proud to support Sam in getting it off the ground.

“The idea came from noticing loads of golf and padel networking events out there, but nothing for tennis. It got me thinking – why not? Tennis is one of our great traditional sports, right up there with football, rugby, cricket and golf. It’s a brilliant mix of skill, strategy and friendly competition, which makes it ideal for building genuine business relationships.” – Sam

The first session

The first Chester Tennis Networking session has already taken place at Glan Aber Tennis Club, and the feedback was fantastic. We’re looking forward to seeing it grow.
